BottomScanner/SampleSettings

Here is a list of some sample settings for Bottom Scanner. I'm listing them here because we get a lot of requests for them, but be forewarned: settings are highly custom to the individual running BTM, and one size doesn't fit all.

  • reserve
    • I set my reserve at about 500-1000g less than what I have (which is...more than that).
    • This used to be a very important field back when BottomFeeder would automatically buy things, but it's much less important now that you have to manually accept each bid in BottomScanner.
  • maxprice
    • I have my maxprice set to 5000000 (or 500g)
    • This setting works for me because I have a lot of cash, and am willing to see some high priced auctions. Note that I rarely purchase anything remotely this expensive without being very, very sure about it.
  • minprofit
    • I have my minprofit set to 35000 (3g 50s)
    • This is probably higher than most people. I have a lot of gold already, so I'm much less interested in auctions which promise less than a couple gold in profits.
    • As a long-time auctioneer and bottom scanner user, I can tell you that you almost always make a little bit less on an auction than auctioneer suggests (after taking out deposit costs, the AH cut, etc.), so set this value higher than the absolute minimum profit you're willing to "waste" your time on.
  • pctprofit
    • I have my pctprofit set to 100 (100%)
    • Note that this field can be higher than 100%. For example, an item with a 10g valuation but a 2g buyout would be a 400% profit item.
      • This is in contrast to the "Pct" field on the auctioneer search tab, which has a maximum value of 100, and which might be more accurately described as "discount". For the same 10g valuation item listed at 2g, on the auctioneer search tab it would be listed as a "80" Pct, because 2g is an 80% discount from the 10g valuation.
      • Astute readers will notice then that pctprofit is (X-Y)/Y, whereas auctioneer's Pct is (X-Y)/X
      • My pctprofit of 100% therefore roughly corresponds to an auctioneer Pct of 50.
    • Anyway, this value works for me because it corresponds to what I do on the auctioneer search tab, which is basically to ignore anything with a Pct below 50%. I'm not willing to spend 10g to make less than a nominal 5g in profit (because the real profit I get will probably be even a little bit less, once fees, relistings, and competition come into play).
  • mindeprofit and pctdeprofit
    • You can generally set these values similar to the above two. Tweak them higher if you want to be more certain about realizing profits from disenchanting (which is inherently riskier because the results aren't guaranteed), or lower if you can generally use the disenchant reagents for your own enchanting needs anyway.
    • I actually have mine set very high at the moment, because:
      • I only have a level 5 enchanter, so since WoW 2.0 I can't d/e most items anyway (i made this change before we added the "enchant" option)
      • Scammers have skewed the prices for most d/e reagents on my server anyway, and we haven't yet coded the fix to help alleviate that problem, so I don't want to be bothered with disenchant possibilities anyway
  • vendprofit
    • I have my vendprofit set to 5000 (50s)
    • This is guaranteed profit, so people usually have this set lower than their minprofit setting (which is riskier)
    • I still don't care about wasting time on things which are minimally profitable, which is why I have mine set to 50s.
  • commonmult
    • I think I have mine set to the default (1.5 maybe?)
    • This doesn't really come up much, frankly
  • allowbids
    • I definitely don't mind bidding on items (especially now, right after TBC release, when a lot of people are ignoring the AH and some items never get much action), so mine is set to 1 (or true/active)
  • minseen
    • I believe I have this set to 3 or 5. Something reasonable, so that you're not basing your whole decision off a single price data point.
  • safetynet
    • I think I have this set to the default
    • Safetynet isn't working exactly right now, anyway. I'm not entirely sure what value it still has, anyway, since there is no automatic purchasing any more.
